Adding makes and attempts gives 5/12 = 41.7%. Averaging the game percentages would give 25.0%, which is wrong whenever games have different numbers of attempts.

How this works

Percentages are makes divided by attempts and stay blank when there are no attempts. Field goals include 3-pointers, so points are 2 × FGM + 3PM + FTM. Team and season percentages add up the makes and the attempts first and divide once: 5 of 10 in one game and 0 of 2 in the next is 5 of 12, or 41.7%, not the 25% you would get by averaging 50% and 0%. A blank box means not recorded, which is different from zero. The spreadsheet uses the same rules in its formulas.

  • Letter or A4, landscape or portrait; portrait fits fewer columns, and a sheet that won't fit says so
  • The spreadsheet is an .xlsx file for Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice or a Google Sheets import. It is a file, not a live Google Sheets connection.
